History of Laylocks

Laylocks was started by Martin Warr in 1973 at Laylocks Cottage in what is now known as Laylocks Lane, on Broadheath Common.

Having trained at Pershore Horticultural College, Martin was soon successful and found the nursery running out of space. More land was required and in 1981 the present site was purchased and work started in earnest to prepare the nursery.

Martin and the team have always prided themselves on their commitment to actually growing on site most of the plants sold at Laylocks.

Roses were planted during the next few years, a time when Laylocks supplied many other Garden Centres.

In 1985 a house-building project was also fitted in!

1986 saw the first extension to the retail greenhouse.

The business has steadily grown, to the point where most of the nursery plants are now sold on the premises and not to other garden centres.

As fashions have changed in gardening, so appeared the concept of 'lifestyle gardening' and the move towards becoming a Garden Centre, rather than predominantly a Nursery.

2000 - 2002 saw a large increase in the amount of indoor retail area, and also the 'covered areas' which are outside but protected from the elements - increasing comfort for customers.

2003 saw us increasing the area of both the car park and the coffee shop.

2004 saw our 21st 'birthday' on March 12th.

Why come to Laylocks ?

If you're unsure of how to begin with a water feature, for instance, Laylocks' staff can help with your initial planning and guide you in the techniques you need to make your project a success.

More than simply a garden centre

At Laylocks we take pride in the quality of our stock and, to maintain the tightest quality control, Laylocks own long established nurseries grow most of the myriad varieties of plants, shrubs and trees that you'll find on display.

Decking, lighting and paving, pergolas and specimen planting are just a few aspects of garden design and if you're keen to give your garden the designer look you'll find the materials you need at Laylocks Garden Centre.

From the bare earth upwards, Laylocks vast range will delight and inspire you to use your garden, to its full potential, extending your home into an outdoor living area and creating a look that's completely individual.
